The Urban Financial Services Coalition is a non-profit organization of minority professionals in the Financial Services Industry. The organization changed its name in June of 2000 from the National Association of Urban Bankers (NAUB), to encompass its affiliates in the Financial Services Industry.

UFSC was established and incorporated in New York City in 1974. It became a National entity in 1977 when other states became affiliate members. Prior to its founding, minority banking professionals had organized local banking groups to meet needs bypassed by existing national banking associations. When bankers from different parts of the country began to discover the value of information sharing among associates from city to city, they organized local chapters into a national network under the umbrella of the Urban Financial Services Coalition.

Over the years, UFSC has grown and changed to meet the needs of the dynamic industry which it serves. It has become an all-encompassing association for individuals in the Banking, Insurance, Brokerage, Securities and other entities in the financial services industry.

Affiliation with UFSC offers a unique opportunity to influence the shape of the banking and financial services industry. UFSC promotes personal and professional growth of members as well as collectively articulating concerns and marshaling resources to improve the economic development of communities that are often under-served by majority owned institutions.

UFSC supports programs that offer practical benefits for minority financial services professionals, banks and financial institutions. The underlying goals and objectives include fostering the interest and expanding the numbers of minorities in banking; increasing community service activities in low-income communities; enhancing scholarship programs for minority youth in pursuit of financial services careers; and cultivating a premiere job bank of experienced minority banking professionals.

On behalf of the UFSC Detroit Board, we would like to welcome you to our organization. We are excited about the future of the UFSC Detroit chapter. We have made it through some difficult times as we maneuvered through uncertainty in the financial markets over last couple of years, but we are now embarking on a new challenge to take the organization to the next level by regaining our membership and community connections.

The mission UFSC Detroit is "To be the pre-eminent financial services organization that provides professional development programs, supports educational advancement and promotes economic empowerment for its members and minority communities at large".

Our goal is to focus on engaging our current and new membership with value added relationships by enhancing our communication channels to provide credible industry insight & foresight in each channel of the community and professional development activities.

That is why it is crucial that we continue to stand as a viable resource to minority professionals in the financial services industry. However, we need your involvement, experience and expertise to make it happen. Please consider joining or rejoining our organization and getting involved, so we can make a difference in our corporations and our community.

Please contact us at ufscdetroit@gmail.com  if you are interested in becoming a member. We look forward to meeting with you soon.
